The Five Big Dont's |
1. DON'T book a release date or release party until you have the CDs in your hand! This is a common issue. It is 12 business days once the plant has all your ingredients. Saturdays and Sundays are not business days. Holidays are not business days. We have been able to help clients who book their CD release party one week from when they step into our office, but it is not recommended at all!
2. DON'T create your artwork at 72 dpi! 72 dpi is screen resolution. It's perfect for the internet and making web pages. It looks like complete shite on CD artwork. It is usually the default on your scanner. CREATE YOUR ARTWORK AT 300 dpi. You can't have something that is 72 dpi and then make it 300; it still looks awful. Scan at 300 dpi always!
3. DON'T save your artwork in RGB mode. Again, RGB is for the internet. It's for the screen, not for print. In Photoshop go to IMAGE, then MODE, and select CMYK. Unless it's Black and White, then select GRAYSCALE.
4. DON'T Don't give us your master without having listened to it ALL THE WAY THROUGH first. Remember - you will get back 1000 copies of exactly what you give us.
5. DON'T make your artwork without bleeds. Please extend your background color, pattern, or picture beyond the cropmarks. This is so that there is a clean cut when the plant cuts your booklet or traycard. See example below:
