6L6 was one of the pioneers of the Boston
punk/metal hybrid sound that came to characterize
many of the bands on Wonderdrug. Starting
off in 1993 with Wonderdrug's (then Summit)
first CD release "Not Even Warm,"
6L6 wore the punk rock on their sleeve. 6L6
then moved into a more accessible sound while
not giving up the intensity that brought
them to the top of the Boston heavy music
scene.
6L6 - "Not Even Warm" - 1993 Produced and Engineered by Ken Cmar. TED CONDO - bass; GEORGE PEREZ - drums; GINA BENEVIDES - guitar "Not Even Warm", Wonderdrug's first CD release, propelled 6L6 to the top of the Boston heavy music scene. The opening track "FREE" became somewhat of a local hit, and helped define the original blend of punk and metal that 6L6 became known for. Ted's impossible scream and thunderous distorted bass laid an intense foundation over Gina's (who later became guitarist for Boston's Blood for Blood) punk riffage. Sounds as fresh today as the day it came out. "Why this band hasn't been signed yet is beyond me. This extremely tight Boston-area band churns out head spinning, intelligent powerful music that defines labels. Some punk influences here, certainly, but these songs are not generic three-chord pieces of chump change." - Jersey Beat BUY ME
6L6 - "SUPERSTAR" - 1994 Produced and Engineered by Ken Cmar. TED CONDO - bass; GEORGE PEREZ - drums; JON SKIBIC - guitar The second release from 6L6 featured Jon Skibic on guitar which took the musicianship of the band to a new level. The music is as intense and in your face as ever, but the songwriting and execution of the arrangements provided for a much more professional album. The big hit of course was "Yeah, Right", containing that irresistable chorus. "Y' Know" showcased the quirky guitar stylings of Jon that would become a signature sound for 6L6. "I refuse to say that this CD is awesome, because everybody calls just about everything awesome these days and it goes without saying that this CD eclipses the "ordinarily" awesome. In fact, I suspect that the brilliant Superstar may swiftly posit 6L6 at the zenith of its local/hardcore universe, as virtually every song on this recording burns so brightly that you could sear a steak to it. This is music that won't go unnoticed." - The Noise BUY ME
