Wonderdrug Records was started in 1990 by myself, Ken Cmar, a Berklee College of Music graduate and native New Yorker.

Originally called Summit Records, the name was changed in 1995 to Wonderdrug Records to avoid confusion with the classical music label Summit Records of Tempe, Az.

The label started out as a marketing and promotion tool for my production and engineering projects, as I basically wanted to be the next Rick Rubin. However, I must have picked some quality bands to work with because before long the label started to take off, and within a few years wound up concentrating on running a successful record label and leaving the production to other (and better!) folks.

I branched out into regional distribution for my artists as well as a bunch of hand picked other locals, and before long had a thriving boutique label and music distribution company specializing in New England based hardcore, metal and punk.

I wound up working with some very popular acts in the late 90’s, and continued to put out my own successful releases while pressing and distributing various other acts.

After the effects of Napster and the like took their toll on the mom and pop record stores (and majors as well), like everyone else I saw sales dramatically decline, to the point we are at today in the industry. I have stopped signing new acts for now, until I see what shape the record industry takes for the future.

Until then, I am currently continuing to help local and regional bands with CD and DVD manufacturing, as well as digital distribution and music licensing. I have dedicated my life to music and to helping local bands, and I look forward to working with you!
